Saturday on Something Blue I will be featuring the ASU Jazz Bands.
Because this was Ron Horton's last Jazz Band concert in Riceland Hall
this was a special show for all involved and it shows in the music.

I will be closing the show with the Jonesboro Jazz Society Big Band
playing Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca". During the song Dizzy walks
onstage and takes a solo. I believe that this is the first time this
seldom heard event will be aired.

Larry Donn Gillahan - 1941-2012

Bono- Larry Don Gillihan, 70, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

He was born on June 7, 1941 in Bono to the late Leonard "Edd" and Sybil Baugh Gillihan. He was a well known veteran local musician. He was a local radio announcer.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Sandefer Gillihan; two sons, Larry Joseph Gillihan of Bono and David Joe Gillihan and wife Heather of Jerusalem, Israel; two grandchildren, Hannah Carlisle Gillihan and Nicholas David Gillihan both of Jerusalem.

Services will be private.

Lasting memorials may be sent to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House or Lymphoma Research Foundation at www.lymphoma.org

The Delta Symphony Brass Quintet will play Dixieland Jazz at Jazz Thursday, March 22 at TheArts@311, 311 S. Church Street in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The quintet includes Ron Foster,Tim Hendrix, Sarah Holt, Jeff Haltom, and John Barttelt, all members of the Delta Symphony Orchestra. Doors open at 6:00 and the music will start at 6:30. Closing the show The Swing Band Project will welcome guests to the stage. All musicians are invited to participate.

Next month is Bebopalooza!, a Jazz Festival sponsored by KASU and the ASU Music Department. Bebopalooza will be held Friday afternoon and evening on April 27 at the ASU Pavilion with the after party at TheArts@311. I will send a full schedule with all the details after all the bands have confirmed. So in April Jazz Thursday will be on a Friday.

How does a person get his music heard by anyone in the music industry the first time. It seems like a catch 22 . You can't send your song to a publisher unless they allready know you. They can't know you untill they have heard your songs. I have been writing and recording for many years, like thousands of other people, but there is a wall that a person just can't get over. Even though I love to perform, I don't have any hopes that I might be performing artist, at 56 years old I don't think i fit the mold of the next heart throb, I just want to try and get my music recorded by someone. So I have decided to cast all my songs to the wind, Im not trying to sell them or make a dime off them myself but just get my music out to the most places i can, in hopes that by accident someone will hear them and they will be good enough to get some interest. If anyone has any advice I would be very gratefull . Kenny

Jerry was born on June 26, 1941. He was a fine musician and a really nice guy. He played out at the Craighead Forest Bandshell many times with Dennis Mathes and The Big Creek Band. He also used to play with Blues Fest regular, Rick Lane.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 27, at 2:00 PM at New Hope Community Church in Swifton, Arkansas.

Visitation is Sunday, February 26, from 2:30 to 6:00 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
